back to the southeast

Well, I didn't expect I'd ever be necromancing my xanga blog, but it seemed to help me keep in touch with people back in MO when I was living out of state.  Given that I just moved back to the Carolinas, I thought it would be worthwhile to reactivate my site.

For those of you I haven't talked to in a while, I moved back to stl from raleigh about a year ago.  The job I had in mo wasn't a good fit, however, and, after searching for over a year for a job in stl that would be a better fit with my specialized interests, I came across a total of zero promising leads.  After much prayer and deliberation, I decided to look elsewhere and found a job in sc which, so far, seems to be an ideal job for me.  Anyway, I'm sure I'll be writing about how warm it is here in a few months and asking how the weather is there.  :)

After enjoying the El Monstero show over Christmas break, I've become more receptive to seeing cover bands.  Last night I saw zoso, a Led Zep cover band, and they were pretty good.  They did what a good cover band should do, which is to play the songs to sound as close to the original as possible.  The singer's ability to replicate Plant's idiosyncratic vocal style was impressive, and the guitarist performed Page's solos almost note for note with the same level of sloppiness (I assume it was intentional).  There was an opening band that was also good at playing covers, but their taste was almost unbearable.  The band is called Bon Journey, and, that's right, they perform Bon Jovi and Journey songs exclusively.  If one is going to form a cover band that combines two 80's bands, the only more egregious combo would be Warrant and Winger.  Ok, I'm exaggerating, but Bon Jovi and Journey?  ugghh.  It made me think, though, you know what would be fun?...a Spinal Tap cover band.  With all of the props, outfits, hilarious songs and stage antics, it could be an entertaining show.

I haven't posted in a while, so I guess I should announce that I passed my licensing exam with flying colors!  It's nice listening to music in my car again instead of the soporific exam content summary cd's that I played exclusively for four months.  Now that that major hurdle is out of the way, I have started applying for jobs and have a couple of good leads in the STL area.  In fact, I'll be there in two weeks to visit family and for a job interview/meeting.  I will be in the 20-23 if anyone wants to get together.

I was recently informed that I most likely will be required to take my licensing exam by the end of February, which is a little sooner than I had anticipated.  My study materials for the exam, which cost nearly $800, arrived today.  After scanning the materials, it looks like I will be fairly swamped with studying for the next few months.  Nonetheless, I will be back in MO for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, and I plan to schedule time to go out.  The only social plans I have at this point are to see El Monstero (sp?), a Pink Floyd tribute, at the Pageant.  If anyone wants to get together or knows of anything fun going on, let me know.

Double D (or was it Double Z?)

Well, since I've been fairly negligent in maintaining my xanga page, I thought I'd at least post about my upcoming trip to Arkansas.  I will be the best man this Saturday at Dan D's (underdawgz unite!) wedding in Bentonville.  If any MO people want to come down and hang out Saturday night, let me know.  Otherwize, I will be watching a U of A football game all night.
